If you're writing a tip sheet ("10 tips
for saving money on your taxes), editors will usually include the
identifier paragraph at the end that states who submitted the tips. If
you're really lucky, they'll include your email address and maybe even
your website URL.
To encourage them to
include the URL, you should offer 10 or 20 more tips on the same topic
at your website. Or offer readers a free special report--at your
website, of course. Or tell them they can take a short quiz at your
website that shows them how much they know--or don't know--about income
taxes. Or ask them to visit your website to sign up for your free email
newsletter.
Editors love it when
you offer their readers something for free. So give them a reason to
include the URL. Otherwise, they might view the contact information as
blatant promotion.
This week's special offer:
I want you to visit my website. So here's
how I'm going to get you there. Order $97 worth of products by noon
Friday, October 14, and you get a half-hour of telephone consulting for
free, a $100 value. You can use the half-hour to brainstorm story ideas
with me. Or let me critique your pitching. Or your media kit. Or your
writing. Split it up into two 15-minute consulting sessions if you'd
like. But you must use
this link to get to my website.
