1. Stay close to your customers. While visiting the Great Internet
Marketing Retreat Center in Virginia Beach a few years
ago, I watched Tom leave the dinner table to take a
phone call from a customer and patiently guide her
through the instructions on how to download a $14 ebook she
ordered.
Most other Internet marketers would have made her wait
until the next day.
2. Give more value than
customers expect.
When we co-wrote the ebook "How to be a Kick-butt
Publicity Hound," Tom wrote an entire chapter that
taught customers how to use Adobe Reader. This was back
in the days when a lot of customers barely knew what a
PDF document was.
3. Don't waste time worrying
about whether a customer will give a copy of your ebook
or a CD to one of their friends for free. Concentrate, instead, on offering so
much value within the product that if somebody gets a
bootleg copy for free, they'll fall in love with you and
visit your website to see what they can buy.
4. Save your customers and followers from
making the same mistakes you've made. This requires that you admit when you
goofed, swallow your pride, and teach others how they
can learn from your errors. They'll be more impressed
than if you did it right the first time!
5. Have fun, even when
people least expect it. There's an old saying that goes "Most
people won't remember what you said. But they'll ALWAYS
remember how you made them feel."
