Can't think of an idea for a press
release? How about offering something for free?
Announcing a freebie is an almost
guaranteed way to get the media to write about you. It's also a great
way to capture people's email addresses so you can build a community of
followers, get sales leads and sell products and services.
I have 55 ideas for freebies that anyone can offer. Remember, the media
as well as bloggers love telling their audiences about anything free.
Here are some of my ideas:
Free Chapter
I offer a
free sample chapter from my ebook "How to be a Kick-butt Publicity
Hound." It gives people a good feel for the kind of content that's in
the ebook. Free Ebook
Each year, I give away an ebook of the best tips compiled from my free
ezine "The Publicity Hounds Tips of the Week." Within each tip, I link
to other products I sell at my website, or to other publicity-related
products and services that other companies sell. This is a great way for
ezine publishers to recycle their content into a free product that can
generate sales. Download the ebooks
here.
Free Reference Chart
Casino expert Bill Burton gives away a handy printed
Craps Reference Chart that explains simple bets, the house edge and
the payoff for each bet. It can be folded to fit easily in a shirt
pocket. The inside of the chart looks like the craps table layout.
Free Return-on-investment Calculator
The George Washington University Medical Center offers an
Alcohol
Cost Calculator that helps a business learn how much it can save in
health care costs when employees have access to a treatment approach.
Free Slide Charts
Slide charts are similar to slide rules. You match up a moving or
sliding scale with pre-printed calculations on a fixed scale to obtain
an answer simply and quickly. Surprisingly complex answers or
calculations can be provided with this simple, entertaining format. At
AmericanSlideChart.com, you can fill out a form for a sample
slide chart.
Free Tutorial
I offer a free tutorial called
"89 Ways to Write Powerful Press Releases." Within the tutorial, I
promote other products I sell that go into more depth on a particular
aspect of publicity. As of this writing, more than 5,000 people have
signed up for the course.
Free White Paper
Perry Marshall offers a free
five-day email course on how to write short, compelling White Papers
that you can offer for free to promote a product or service.
My "Special Report #51: 55 Free Things You Can Offer to Generate
Publicity or Capture Email Addresses" is $10 and available on my
special reports page.
